Where Michigan Boat Numbers Go

Display the MC number on both sides of the forward half, as high above the waterline as practical. The number should remain visible, legible, and free from other markings that could make it hard to identify.

  • Use the state prefix MC exactly as assigned on your registration.
  • Use plain block characters at least three inches high.
  • Read the complete number from left to right.
  • Use a strongly contrasting color against the hull or background panel.
  • Separate letter and number groups with hyphens or spaces equal to a character width.

Validation Decal Placement

Place the validation decal three inches to the right of and in line with the registration number. Install decals only after cleaning and drying the surface, and keep them visible for inspection.
