What Goes in a Truck Door Kit?
A typical kit can include your legal company name, city and state, USDOT number, MC number, phone number, website, and a simplified logo. The best layout gives required identification priority while keeping the brand easy to recognize.
USDOT and MC Numbers Are Different
A USDOT number identifies a motor carrier for safety monitoring. An MC number is operating authority issued for certain for-hire interstate operations. Not every carrier needs the same combination, so verify your operating authority instead of copying another truck’s markings.
Design for Real Truck Doors
- Measure the flat usable area inside handles, trim, hinges, and body lines.
- Choose high-contrast colors that remain readable in daylight.
- Avoid thin fonts for required identification.
- Keep important text away from door edges and deep contours.
- Provide the truck year, make, model, and a straight-on photo when possible.
One-Color Cut Vinyl or Printed Graphics?
Cut vinyl is an excellent choice for crisp names and numbers with no background. Printed graphics work better for multicolor logos, gradients, or detailed artwork. Many effective door kits combine both methods.
Application and Care
Install on a clean, dry, smooth surface. Remove wax, grease, and residue before positioning. Apply at a suitable temperature, use firm overlapping squeegee strokes, and allow the adhesive time to bond before washing.
