WHAT TO CHECK.
BEFORE YOU ORDER.
Start with the researched considerations for your project. National rules remain national; your registration jurisdiction may differ from your shipping destination.
Reserve the official decal space before sizing the number
Arizona Game and Fish directs owners to place the official decals three inches ahead of AZ on both sides of the forward half of the craft. Its number guidance calls for contrasting block characters at least three inches tall, reading left to right, with a hyphen or equivalent space separating the letter groups from the digits. Measure the complete layout before ordering custom lettering. The official registration decals come through the state process and are not included with custom vinyl numbers.
Check the complete forward-half layout
The agency says the AZ number should be the only number on the forward half and clearly visible from 100 feet in daylight. Review decorative numbers and sponsor artwork as part of the entire layout, rather than evaluating the registration text in isolation. Photograph both sides and ask the authority about any uncertain placement. A proof establishes the requested artwork; it does not certify compliance or replace the owner’s registration responsibilities.

PROJECT BRIEF.
Make separate port and starboard measurement sheets
For each side, draw the usable panel and mark its length, height, curves, rub rail and any existing graphics. Identify which edge faces the bow so the reviewer can reserve the appropriate decal area without guessing from a cropped photograph. Record the assigned characters exactly as shown on the current paperwork. Ask for a full-size paper layout if the available area is close to the proposed width. Approve the two sides individually, especially when vents, repairs or accessories leave different amounts of usable space.
Build a coordinated order without copying one layout everywhere
A boat, tow vehicle and contractor trailer can share brand colors while using separate artwork files. Put the boat identifier, vehicle company wording, applicable USDOT text and trailer branding on different proof lines. Include dimensions, quantities and an asset label for each line. For a fleet, keep a revision log so replacement lettering uses the approved spelling and size. Race numbers and sponsor decals need their own current instructions; do not let a shared logo file overwrite the operational identifiers for another asset.
Confirm surface preparation and delivery before scheduling work
Add close-up photographs of the actual application surface, existing coatings and any planned repainting to the quote. Tell the reviewer whether a local installer will apply the graphics and request material review for curved or textured areas. Printed-and-shipped vehicle wraps need panel dimensions and overlap instructions from that installer. Supply the Arizona delivery ZIP code and receiving contact, then confirm production timing, material availability and freight during quote review. A saved configuration or export records specifications; it does not take payment or guarantee an arrival date.
