Order custom characters separately from BMV decals

Indiana BMV issues a registration certificate, an assigned number and two decals, but says the registration-number stickers themselves are not supplied by BMV or DNR. For watercraft required to display the number, use the assigned text and review the BMV placement guidance before requesting lettering. Identify the official decals separately on the proof so the lettering order does not appear to include state-issued registration materials. Confirm any exemption directly with the agency.

Indiana DNR requires annual lake permits at the state-managed properties identified in its guidance, including for relevant non-motorized boats. It separately lists waters that do not require that permit. The permit goes on the left front, or port, side rather than the windshield. Check your actual destination and the instructions on the permit before placing decorative graphics. A DNR lake permit, BMV registration decal and custom number set are three different items; buying lettering does not obtain either official item.

Photograph the bow from both sides and label the proposed registration-character area, official registration-decal space and any required lake-permit location. Include actual measurements and existing trim or hardware. Check which spaces are needed for your vessel and planned waters before choosing a decorative stripe. Ask for a dimensioned proof if the elements compete for room. Label boat lettering, tow-vehicle decals and trailer graphics as separate order groups. A work truck’s company information and applicable USDOT identifiers should come from the approved vehicle specification, while a boat number comes from its registration record. For race graphics, provide current team and sponsor instructions rather than copying the vessel layout. A fleet purchase should identify each body style, side, quantity and replacement piece so the same logo can be produced at appropriate sizes without mixing identifiers.

For an Indiana shipment, provide the receiving contact, ZIP code and a package list grouped by asset. If a shop receives printed wrap panels, have its installer approve dimensions, panel splits and overlap first. Tell the reviewer about the surface and any planned repainting so materials and preparation can be discussed. Quote review confirms material availability, production timing and freight. Installation is arranged separately; a configuration export is a planning document to include with your quote request, not a completed purchase.
