Make paddle-craft contact labels useful

New Mexico State Parks recommends keeping owner contact information in a paddle craft, on a sticker or by another method. Its guidance explains that finding an empty craft can trigger a search, and contacting the owner can help responders understand the situation. This is contact-label guidance, not a substitute for registration. Use an owner-approved reachable contact and keep official vessel identifiers distinct from optional identification graphics.

For a paddling group or rental inventory, create a contact-label specification containing the asset ID, business or owner contact and the person responsible for keeping that information current. Test that the approved phone number reaches the intended recipient before production. Avoid adding unnecessary personal details to a label that may be visible publicly. Photograph a suitable interior area and identify texture, curvature or flexing. The artwork reviewer should assess material suitability; some surfaces need a different attachment approach rather than an ordinary adhesive decal.

Keep contact-label artwork separate from a decorative hull logo or race number so a changed phone number can be updated without redesigning every graphic. For a mixed motorized and paddle fleet, maintain separate official-number records and optional contact labels. Order spares by asset class and store the final revision with the person managing the fleet. Trailer and tow-vehicle lettering can use the same public business contact after approval, while retaining their own company and applicable carrier identifiers. Review all numbers carefully before authorizing the complete package.
