Check the registration type before buying OH lettering
Ohio DNR distinguishes traditional registration from alternative registration for hand-powered vessels. The alternative option requires a displayed decal but does not require the OH number to be displayed. Check your current registration type first rather than ordering a number set just because the registration card lists an OH number. A custom vinyl order cannot issue or change that registration. Use the state’s guidance to confirm the applicable display requirements, including any exemption, before releasing artwork.
Reserve the traditional registration decal area
For traditional registration, Ohio DNR describes a decal on each side, six inches from the OH number toward the stern. Give the proof reviewer two side photographs and identify which direction points toward the rear. The OH number stays with the boat through ownership changes in Ohio, while the registration decals change on renewal. Verify the assigned number against the current record before replacing worn characters. Custom number lettering does not substitute for the official decals.

PROJECT BRIEF.
Keep decorative graphics separate from the display decision
After confirming whether registration lettering is needed, plan any boat name or decorative decal as its own item. Record its dimensions, surface and proposed location independently. This prevents a design change to a logo from inadvertently moving required identification or obscuring a validation decal. For a paddle craft with alternative registration, a decorative graphic still needs a suitable installation area; do not treat the absence of displayed OH numbers as permission to cover the official decal. Ask production to review the surface and material selection before committing to a design.
Order mixed fleet kits from a piece-level schedule
For a business ordering work-truck, trailer and equipment graphics together, list each piece by unit, side and quantity. Separate cut lettering from printed logos and mark which pieces form a pair. Provide carrier identifiers exactly as supplied by the responsible operator; the Ohio boat-number rules do not determine truck lettering requirements. If race graphics are included, attach the current series specifications and authorized sponsor files. Keep those event-specific revisions separate from permanent fleet branding so later replacements reference the correct artwork.
Coordinate proof approval and Ohio delivery
Include the receiving ZIP code, the requested arrival date and the date your team can approve final artwork. If packages must be split between a shop and an installer, give each destination its own item list. Shipping costs, material availability and production timing need confirmation in the quote. For printed wraps, your installer must approve the panel plan and arrange installation separately. A configuration export is a specification record, not a paid order or delivery commitment; review the quote draft before sending it.
