WHAT TO CHECK.
BEFORE YOU ORDER.
Start with the researched considerations for your project. National rules remain national; your registration jurisdiction may differ from your shipping destination.
Resolve documentation before copying an SC number
SCDNR states that Coast Guard documented vessels are exempt from South Carolina registration. A documented vessel therefore needs a different ordering decision from a state-numbered boat. Confirm the vessel’s current documentation or registration status before copying the number from an older photograph. If the ownership or documentation is changing, resolve that process with the relevant authority before approving permanent lettering. Decorative boat names and sponsor graphics do not establish a vessel’s legal status.
Route official decal replacements to SCDNR
SCDNR provides a duplicate-decal process for lost, destroyed or faded official decals. A custom vinyl order cannot replace that government-issued item. Identify whether your request concerns the official decal, registration characters, a boat name or decorative graphics before requesting a quote. Keep the official replacement request separate from the artwork order so a design proof is not mistaken for renewal paperwork. Use the agency’s current instructions for the registration record and any replacement application.

BUILD A CLEARER
PROJECT BRIEF.
Build a repair list before ordering a full graphics kit
For a partially damaged design, list the affected side, panel and individual pieces. Send a straight-on photograph of the undamaged side when available and include dimensions from the original approved proof. Record the earlier material and color specification if known; an on-screen photograph is not a reliable color match. Ask whether the repair should replace one element or a larger group so the final appearance can be reviewed. Do not remove intact artwork until the replacement scope and installation plan are agreed.
Protect identification areas during a wrap refresh
Mark the registration area and other existing identification on the boat photographs before adding decorative panels. Keep the approved custom text distinct from serial numbers and paperwork identifiers. For a truck-and-trailer fleet order, create a separate proof sheet for each body style, including handles, trim and panel gaps. Race graphics need the team’s approved number and sponsor layout. These proof controls help prevent a decorative revision from covering information the owner needs to keep visible; they do not certify regulatory compliance.
Package the order for the person doing the installation
Specify whether the South Carolina delivery goes to the owner, a business receiving desk or an independent installer. Group the quote by boat, vehicle or trailer and identify left and right pieces. For printed wraps, have the installer approve the panel map, bleed and overlap before production. Request confirmed shipping charges and timing rather than scheduling work from an assumed arrival date. This is nationwide product shipping, with installation arranged separately; no South Carolina storefront or on-site installation service is implied.
