Installation Guide

USDOT and MC Number Decal Installation

Prepare, position, and apply commercial vehicle number decals cleanly while protecting alignment, spacing, and readability.

1. Check the Kit Before Starting

Verify the legal business name, USDOT number, MC number when applicable, quantity, colors, and passenger- versus driver-side layouts. Do not install incorrect numbers.

2. Choose a Suitable Surface

Use a smooth, sound, clean panel that keeps the identification visible and unobstructed. Avoid deep body lines, textured plastic, damaged paint, hinges, handles, seams, or areas blocked by equipment.

Prepare and Clean the Surface for Application

Wash away dirt, then remove wax, grease, polish, silicone, and residue with a surface-appropriate cleaner. Dry completely. Fresh paint must be fully cured according to the paint manufacturer before vinyl application.

4. Position and Hinge

  • Hold the complete graphic in place with low-tack masking tape.
  • Measure from stable body references, not uneven ground.
  • Step back and verify level, spacing, and visibility.
  • Create a tape hinge so the graphic returns to the approved position.

5. Apply With Firm Overlapping Strokes

Remove the liner gradually while keeping the adhesive from touching prematurely. Squeegee from the hinge outward using firm overlapping strokes. Avoid trapping air or stretching the transfer tape.

6. Remove Transfer Tape and Inspect

Peel transfer tape back slowly at a sharp angle. If a character lifts, lower the tape and squeegee again. Press edges firmly, inspect every character, and allow the adhesive to bond before washing. Temperature and material instructions can vary; follow the directions supplied with the kit.
