Typical Bow Placement
Registration numbers are generally displayed on both sides of the forward half of a state-numbered vessel. They should read from left to right and remain easy to see when the boat is in normal operating position.
Core Display Requirements
- Install one complete number on the port side and one on the starboard side.
- Keep the number on the forward half of the vessel.
- Use a straight, readable line unless your state explicitly allows another layout.
- Avoid hardware, body seams, rub rails and strongly curved surfaces.
- Place validation decals according to your state’s required position.
Choose a Clean, Smooth Surface
Vinyl performs best on a clean, smooth and compatible surface. Remove wax, oxidation, salt, oil and old adhesive. Textured plastic, inflatable materials and heavily oxidized gelcoat may require a different solution.
Dry-Fit Before Applying
Use low-tack tape to position the complete transfer before removing the backing paper. Check alignment from several feet away and compare both sides of the vessel before pressing the vinyl down.
